The
lovely holiday resort Kizkalesi is situated on the south east coast of Turkey,
60 km from the city of Mersin and 120 km from the international airport of Adana.
Its
fine sandy beaches are ideal for families with children and due to the special
location at the south east coast the swimming season lasts from April
up to December
Kizkalesi
is built on the ancient site of Korykos, one of the largest settlements of this
area. The land fortress, the maidens castle in the sea and many churches and
tombs in the hills are witness of these times.
In
the environment you will find many historical sights like the city ruins of
Elaiussa Sebaste and Kanlidivane, sarcophagi and rock tombs with human figures
carved in relief.
In Silifke you can visit the fortress, a roman temple and the underground church
of the Holy Thecla.
In
the hills behind Silifke the great sanctuary of Zeus - Diocaesarea - and the
Roman city Olba with its two-storied Aqueduct is situated.

Further
up along the valley of the Göksu river, where the emperor Barbarossa drowned,
the monastery complex of Alahan is overlooking the Göksu valley at an altitude
of 1200 m .
Natural
beauty offer the caves of Cennet Cehennem, the large bird sanctuary in the delta
of the Göksu river or the beautiful coastline driving to the fortress of
Anamur .
